Positions are free text, so use whatever your league calls them.

How coaches plan a football game in Plays Manager

Start with your units. You name them the way your staff already talks — Gold Offense, Purple Offense, Blue Offense, Gold Defense, kickoff, kick return — and fill each one by position, dragging athletes in from the roster. Positions are free text, so an unbalanced line or a league-specific label is never a problem.

Then lay out the game. Each half is a list of series, and a series can hold any number of plays. Drop a unit onto a series, reorder series up and down as your script changes, and the planner immediately recalculates how many plays every athlete on that unit just picked up. Nothing is a guess — the count next to each name is the count you will be held to.

Real games are not clean unit swaps, so you can substitute a single athlete at the start of a series or after any play inside it — including subbing for a sub. That is how a coach gets a tenth or eleventh player their required snaps without pulling the whole unit off the field.

Hitting the play minimum before kickoff, not after

Most youth leagues require a minimum number of plays per half. Plays Manager keeps a live per-half play count for every athlete and flags anyone still short of the minimum, so you fix the rotation at the kitchen table instead of discovering the problem in the fourth quarter.

Injury and availability flags feed the same math. Mark an athlete unavailable and every unit they appear in is checked for strength, with a warning where a unit is now short and a one-click replacement from the rest of the roster. The rotation stays legal even when your Friday roster is not the roster you planned around.

What you print for game day

The plan leaves the app on paper. Print the full rotation plan series by series, a spotter sheet for the assistant tracking snaps on the sideline, and per-unit depth charts so each group knows who lines up where. Everything exports as PDF for printing or CSV when your league or athletic director wants the play counts in a spreadsheet.

Plans are saved with an opponent and a game date, so last week's chart becomes this week's starting point. You can share a plan with another coach using a share code, and set one plan as the team default that every coach on the staff opens into.

Draw the plays behind the rotation

The same membership includes the Play Designer and playbook tools, so the rotation plan and the plays your units are running live in one place. Draw football plays with player markers, routes, blocks, motion and notes, then organize them into playbooks you can print as a full book or a sideline call sheet.

Roster and season setup

Build the roster once: names, jersey numbers, positions and availability. If your league hands you a spreadsheet, import it as CSV rather than retyping thirty-plus athletes. From there the same roster powers your units, your rotation and your printed sheets, and the included Playbooks and Play Designer lets you draw and print the plays those units are running.

Football rotation questions coaches ask

How do I make sure every player gets their minimum plays?

Assign units to each series in the planner and watch the live per-half play count beside every name. Anyone below your league's minimum is flagged, so you adjust the series or add an in-series substitution before the game rather than after it.

Can I substitute one player instead of the whole unit?

Yes. Substitutions can happen at the start of a series or after any individual play, and you can substitute for a substitute. Play counts update for both athletes as soon as you save the change.

What can I hand to my assistant coaches on Friday night?

Print the rotation plan, a spotter sheet for tracking snaps live, and depth charts for each unit. All three export as PDF, and play counts also export as CSV.
